Marion Abbie (Hoyt) 1940–2026

Marion Abbie (Hoyt) Katz, 85, passed peacefully into eternal rest on September 7, 2026, surrounded by her devoted husband and loving daughter. She leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, laughter, music, dancing and most of all, an immeasurable love for her family.

Marion was born in the very house where she was raised in Roslindale, Massachusetts and remained there for 83 years. She was the beloved daughter of the late Edward and Bridget (Whalen) Hoyt and the youngest of nine children, affectionately known throughout her life as “the baby of the Hoyts.” She graduated from Roslindale High School in 1958.

Marion lived life with an adventurous spirit and a joyful heart. In her younger years, she loved to dance and ice skate and became an avid skier. Later in life, she and her husband, Harvey, enjoyed cruising to beautiful tropical destinations with their close friends. She loved music and would sing whenever given the opportunity. Wherever there was music playing, Marion was likely to be dancing/singing.

For 55 years, Marion shared an extraordinary love with her soulmate, Harvey Katz. Their devotion to one another was evident to everyone who knew them. They were often seen holding hands and dancing together whenever music played, even at sporting events. Their love was a beautiful example of a lifelong partnership filled with friendship, laughter and devotion.

Marion worked as a cafeteria worker at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center, where she formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. She especially treasured working alongside her niece, Elaine Moses. The two were known for their loud laughter and the joy they brought to each other and those around them.

Above all, Marion loved her family deeply. She loved hard, gave generously and treasured every moment spent with those she loved. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she took great pride and joy in being their grandmother and their loudest cheerleader at all their sporting events.

Marion leaves behind her beloved husband of 55 years, Harvey Katz, her soulmate and lifelong partner; her daughter, Jeneen Demers Settipane and her husband, Ronald, of Shrewsbury, MA; her son, Jarrod Katz, and his wife, Andrea, of Pepperell, MA and her cherished grandchildren, Austyn and Aryssa Demers, and Cody, Landon, and Laci Katz. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.

Marion was predeceased by her eight beloved siblings: Ruth Hoyt, Raymond Hoyt, Barbara Comeau, Dorothy Palmer, Eileen Kaskeski, Edward Hoyt, Mary Madden, and David Hoyt.

Marion will be remembered for her infectious laughter, her love of music, dancing and the fierce unconditional love she had for her family. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, memories and a family who will carry her in their hearts forever.

“The baby of the Hoyts” may have been the youngest, but she leaves behind a love that will last forever.
