German Centre honors centenarians

The German Centre in West Roxbury recently held a Tea Ceremony for its members celebrating their century of life. Those included:
Louis Lusardi, 103, December 21, 1922
Louis is a proud United States Army veteran who served during World War II from 1943 to 1946 as an Army medic on Okinawa Island. For his courage and dedication, Louis was awarded a Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. Beyond his military service, Luis is an avid gardener, who took great pride in maintaining a large vegetable garden along with many beautiful flowers. He lived in Dedham before moving to West Roxbury.
Theresa DeSantis, 103, July 03, 1922
Longtime member of the Brookline Garden Club, award-winning floral designer, and enthusiastic entertainer who loved bowling and social outings.
Dorothy Appel, 102, December 22, 1923
Accomplished artist and former art teacher whose work includes watercolor, oils, woodcuts and pastels. Dorothy and her husband also delighted children for more than 20 years as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Dorothy was born in Boston, lived in Sharon and Brookline, and now resides in West Roxbury.
World traveler, former buyer and real estate professional with a love for Boston and Cape Cod living. Mary spent much of her time on Cape Cod and had a home on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston before moving to the German Centre.
Stanley Ng, 100, December 11, 1925
Known for his gentle spirit, love of swimming, walking and animals, and lifelong devotion to family. Stanley, who owned a Chinese restaurant for many years, has lived in the Boston area his entire life.

Blood donors needed
Having blood and platelets available when a patient arrives at a trauma center is vital. Major traumas can quickly deplete a hospital’s blood product supply. People of all blood types are urged to schedule an appointment to give blood or platelets as we look toward Memorial Day and summer.
