Allston Christmas has come and gone, and while some blocks might still have a few “gifts” leftover on the sidewalk, Boston’s 311 complaint lists are forever.

Allston Christmas is the nickname given to the student move-in period at the end of fall. Many times students leave unwanted items out for interested pickers to come and get, and so the nickname stuck.

Furniture, appliances, arts and crafts – if you can name it, it’s been left out.

But this year has been relatively quiet. According to 311.Boston.gov, the biggest, and likely most understandable, infractions have been illegal parking. Many moving trucks, out-of-state plates and vans were cited during the last five days in Allston and Brighton.

In Allston, there were a total of 63 instances of illegal parking that Allston sent to 311. But Brighton came in almost double that at 104 complaints. Many of the Brighton complaints came from Radnor Road.

Some notable instances included several occasions blocking streets or driveways, several hydrant parkings, and one Cyber Truck parked in the bus lane on the Leo Birmingham Parkway (a Cyber Truck was also spotted in front of a hydrant on Brighton Avenue in Allston).

A somewhat significant issue apparently came from the North End, where an electrical box at the intersection of Commercial Street and Hanover Street was knocked over by a vehicle. The report states that: “Got bumped over in Allston Xmas. Appears to have live wires exposed.”

There were several instances of damaged signs reported all throughout Allston and Brighton, apparently from unfamiliar drivers. There were also several instances of improper trash storage throughout the Allston and Brighton neighborhoods.

Rodent reports were also, as per usual, very numerous.

As to junk on the sidewalk, reported finds included several couches, tables, chairs, lamps, an ornate solid wood coffee table, fans, a pet carrier, book cases – so many book cases! – several dog waste bags (hopefully unrelated to Allston Xmas), several mattresses, glass shards, and more.
