Letters to the Editor

You Can Use The Word Veteran

If I was to label myself ideologically I would most likely say Progressive. Some after seeing who wrote this letter might cough and say Liberal.

Given that maybe that is why I am the person who should write this letter disagreeing with a post by the head of Progressive Mass criticizing State Senator Rush for using the word veteran on his signs.

There are times political groups will make post that they think will help their endorsed candidate. Progressive Mass has endorsed his opponent. That post in my opinion is not helpful to Rush’s opponent

I think the head of Progressive Mass now regrets the post in that he has clarified the post by saying it was his personal view. The word I use for that type of clarification is backtracking.

While I have had fun with Senator Rush when Army beats Navy, Dad was an Army veteran, I would never criticize him or anyone for using the word Veteran in their political campaigns

Many years ago a friend of mine was running for Boston School Committee. Back then you could put a word beside your name on the ballot. Yes, Veteran was a word you could use.

For my friend he used Democrat. The Boston Globe called him about it asking him why because Boston municipal elections are non partisan. His reply: It is who I am.

People can disagree with Senator Rush’s views but I will say criticizing him for using the word Veteran is wrong
