Boston Landmarks Orchestra: Free Concerts in Jamaica Plain and Dorchester

Boston Landmarks Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Christopher Wilkins, welcomes the New Year with two free concerts featuring celebrated violinist Thomas Cooper. The performances will take place in Jamaica Plain and Dorchester on Friday, January 9th, and Saturday, January 10th, offering the public a diverse and uplifting program to begin 2026.

The program highlights a rich tapestry of composers, including works of Mozart and his renowned contemporary Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, and works by more recent composers such as Valerie Coleman and Julia Perry.

"We are thrilled to bring such a vibrant and inspiring program to the heart of Boston’s neighborhoods," says Music Director Christopher Wilkins. "The New Year is a time for renewal, and this concert is a celebration of the depth and breadth of orchestral music, offering moments of both reflection and sheer joy. We are especially excited to feature the exceptional talent of Thomas Cooper."

About Boston Landmarks Orchestra

Boston Landmarks Orchestra was founded in 2001 by conductor and community advocate Charles Ansbacher. The orchestra comprises many of the area's finest professional musicians. In its earliest years, the orchestra performed in such historically important settings as Fenway Park, the USS Constitution Pier, Jamaica Pond, Franklin Park, Copley Square, Boston Common, and other landmark locations. Boston Nature Center awarded $400K from state

The City of Boston announced it has received a $400,000 climate resilience grant to develop restoration plans for Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center wetland and a portion of the state-owned Canterbury Brook flowing through the Boston Nature Center and an adjacent parcel. Restoring a healthy stream-wetland complex at the Boston Nature Center would create additional stormwater storage capacity, helping lessen flood risk within the watershed.

Two children dead from flu in Boston

The Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC) is informing residents that flu has been associated with the deaths of two children under two years of age in Boston. These are the first reported flu deaths in children in Boston since 2013. One death was referenced in yesterday’s press release from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the second was confirmed overnight, bringing the state total to four pediatric flu-related deaths. As Boston continues to experience a surge in flu cases, BPHC is urging residents to get vaccinated and take preventative measures to protect against severe illness.
